Netflix incorporates a large number of systems into it's company. The web-based user interface that allows customers to choose movies is just the beginning. Netflix offers the ability to add RSS feeds, give and receive recommendations, rate movies, and interact with other Netflix members. The heart of the Netflix system is it's vast web interface. It is through the Netflix website that users can browse movies, watch movie previews, rate recently viewed movies, and receive accurate recommendations.

Every Netflix account has a queue. The Netflix queue is the place where a user stores the movies that they will eventually receive, in the
order they wish to receive them. At a glance the user is able to see which movies they currently have rented out, as well as the next movie
that will arrive. From a single page the user is able to change the position of the movie in the queue, rate the movie, or watch it instantly via
streaming download, if available.

In addition, the user can see when the movie is available for shipment. If the movie is not currently available, an estimated date is given.

After viewing movies, the user is asked to rate their recent return in order for Netflix to better understand their viewing habits.
Based on how many stars a user gives a movie (0 - 5 star rating), Netflix's Cinematch™ recommendation system will suggest other movies that may be of interest.

One of Netflix's most unique characteristics is it's Cinematch™ recommendation software. Based on a customer's past rating of movies, Netflix is able to make accurate recommendations for movies it determines the customer will enjoy. This software is the subject of The Netflix Prize, a contest among tens of thousands of programmers to improve the recomendation algorithm:

Netflix utilizes an Oracle System as the backbone of their business management system. It is utilized to manage inventory, financial and company performance, and customer data. It is also at the core of the Cinematch™ system. As well as managing business data, the entire DVD library is represented and is represented in the website along with customer data. Company performance and logistics are also managed through the Oracle system. The company was built from the ground up using this system.
